An armed robber took hostages at a pharmacy in North Carolina early Friday morning, initiating a standoff with police.
Officers in Belmont, N.C., responded to a 911 call that a man with a rifle was robbing a CVS. When they arrived and ordered the man to drop the weapon, he fired at them, missing the officers, then took three hostages in the building, the local NBC affiliate reports. The gunman later released the hostages.
The gunman surrendered shortly before 8 a.m. EST.
