Cheney Feared Terrorists Could Hack His Heart

Veep disabled defibrillator's wireless feature

Before it was a plot point for the fictional vice president on Showtime’s Homeland, former Vice President Dick Cheney feared terrorists could hack his defibrillator.

In a “60 Minutes” interview to air Sunday, Cheney said his doctor disabled the wireless feature on his implanted heart device so that a terrorist couldn’t use it to somehow send a shock to his heart and induce cardiac arrest.

Cheney said he has seen the episode of Homeland in which a terrorist uses that method to kill the vice president and that he’d already known “from the experience we had … that it was an accurate portrayal of what was possible.”

Cheney is a TERRORIST.

That's why he fears them.

May he rot in hell for what he has done.

Terrorists, in the traditional sense?  Well, not only.  He has us to fear: I'm sure millions of upstanding Americans would be only too pleased to press the button to send the pulse.  He's a criminal, pure and simple, and he and his buddy dragged our name and our values through the muck.

Millions of Americans will do the job for him and Bush Snr and Bush Jnr plus stupid Blair.There would have been no Hezbollah or any other terrorist organizations if it wasn't for the illegal state of israel. The jews from the illegal state of israel are the biggest terrorist. They just kill people left/right and center  Why can't the jews live peacefully with the Palestinians in the State of Palestine? Share Universities, schools, one parliament, two official languages and live in peace, share suburbs, share Jerusalem one nation living peacefully together. Why building huge walls to keep apartheid alive. The Palestinians and the jews can live happily together in one nation under one flag. Then the terrorist movements will disappear.

What is this about talks? The only action should be giving the land of the Palestinians, give back their land. The state of israel is an illegal state. The Israelite's trekked over the Red Sea to the land of Canaan not Palestine. The family of Arafat can go back to 2650 years when they were already living in Jerusalem he was born in Jerusalem. Why cannot he be buried in his birth city Jerusalem? England did not know the history of Palestine or they ignored it when they illegally gave part of Palestine to the jews with the help of the USA. Now England and the USA must give back the land they stole from the Palestinians plus billions of dollars of compensation. Who is Sharon, Gurion, Olmert, Barak, Peres, Steinitz, Netanyahu these mafia guys should be given the death sentence with Blair and Bush as murderers of mankind. All the land belongs to the Palestinians, just give it back as simple as that and take the illegal jews to the USA and give them a Reserve to go and live in. The illegal jews have now killed too many Palestinians it cannot go on further like this. The illegal jews are just a causing enough tension in the Middle East for too long, they must get out and stay out. The illegal jews in Palestine are the biggest threat to world peace and they have created the biggest apartheid state in the history of the whole world. The illegal jews do not want peace, poor old Kerry is just as stupid as the Clinton's he does not know the real jew they are the children of unrest and troublemakers.

The story I heard was that when Cheney's doctor was working on his Pace Maker, he noticed an individual whose skin color was bright red going from one room to another.  Upon closer examination the doctor realized that the "red hued" gentleman had horns growing out of his forehead and in place of shoes ... the gentleman had "cloven hoofs" and a tail.

The doctor looked at Cheney and said ... "whoa, who the hell is that?"  Cheney looked and said ... "Oh, him? That's the Devil, don't worry ... he works for me!"

 According to the 16 federal intelligence agencies responsible for evaluation Bush/Cheney's actions in Iraq, ALL of them kept telling him he was making more terrorists than he and his sock puppet Bush were defeating. By that math, terrorists wouldn't want him dead.  They're pretty happy with their agent for growth.

I do have to say that this behavior isn't surprising.  Cheney is an idiot.  Granted, he was smarter than Bush, but given he shot his friend in the face, that's not exactly a gold star on a report card.  Rightists are generally very fearful people. Fearful of change.  Fearful of things they can't understand.  Their information sources rely on this fear and feed them fear to keep them in line and obedient to their will.  It makes them delusional and do stupid things.  This was a very stupid thing to do.

The amusing thing about this situation is that one good shot from any unshielded, relatively powerful magnetron will pretty much do him in over time. That's a hell of a lot easier to arrange than hacking a network signal to reprogram the device.  It's also a hell of a lot harder to trace to the source since it will only disable the device - which means an attack on the device won't kill him right away.  It just wouldn't work when it's needed.  An autopsy will show that the device is non-functional.  It won't likely say when it became so.

At the very least, assuming the functionless state of the device isn't detected before a fatal incident isn't corrected by the device (which it may not be since the wireless adapter is the best way to check the state of the device), it will have to be replaced.  That creates the potential for other life-threatening complications, and doesn't solve the problem of the new device being disabled the same way the old one was.

Magnetrons can be found in any microwave oven.  A kit for an "electric eye" can be had from any number of electronics stores.  It would be simple, easy and cheap.  Why be James Bond when you can be Gomer Pyle and still get the job done?

Maybe Cheney will read this and push for legislation to register and track all microwave magnetrons so they won't hurt him.  Fear makes you do stupid things - like turn off the best way of detecting that a pitifully easy and simple magnetron attack has happened because of the fear of a difficult and complicated way of attacking the device.  In short, because of this relatively unfounded fear, he just made it more likely that he'll die sooner.

For these kinds of people, sooner or later, Darwin wins.  If someone is really gunning for him, he just made it simpler for them.  Like I said, this was a stupid thing to do.

Coward Cheney is worrying about the wrong thing here. Terrorists!!! No. He needs to worry about the Angel of death coming to snatch his evil soul out of his wretched body. Wireless or wired the ANGELS will stop that pumping device in his chest.

The easy hackability of wireless and medical wireless devices is a serious weakness - Cheney should (seriously) lead the charge to enforce federal security standards on medical devices implanted in the USA.  Just like Nancy Reagan championing gun control or Sarah Palin suddenly finding value in government funded autism research, Cheney's "I hate government" credentials could help this debate to recognize that uniform standards must be imposed rather than voluntarily adopted.

This evil war criminal is the perfect example of a pathetic coward who needs to cower behind his police state thug secret service protection for the rest of his life, after living a life of causing monstrous human rights atrocities. What a pathetic coward, and how pathetic are the mindless sheep, the mindless thugs who sign up to guard this guy. What a way to earn your living! Feeding your kids protecting the most reviled "dignitary" in the country.

god, this story pisses me off. just the sheer stupidity and irrelevance to him and the story.... tell ya what Time, pay me HALF of what you're paying the schmuck that wrote this and we'll call it good. I'm serious. This author can't write their name out of a paper bag...and couldn't figure out an important story if it ran him or her over like 911. Really? Is this the best you can do for a story of national importance? sad. limp and pathetic. I'm serious. I'm a college graduate who has taken advanced composition, scientific writing, chemistry, physiology, critical thinking , philosophy, neurology, logic, algebra, statistics, gross anatomy and calculus and this is the best you can do? Serious. I need a job and I'll knock this out of the park....LOL

@DeweySayenoff Then again, why bother with that when anyone with sniper training could pick him off just about 24/7.  Yes, that could well be a "suicide mission", but how many people would die happy knowing that they've taken out, for a huge set of real reasons, one of the worst terrorists of this or any other century.

@DeweySayenoff I agree with what you said about rightists. Leftists aren't much better. Move on beyond the major parties like the growing number of people in this country who are turning toward liberty.

In fact he is a war monger who should be up before the ICC for crimes against humanity.

Last month over 1000 people died in Iraq due to terrorist bombs. Well done Cheney and Bush your legacy lives on.

@PonurGraveCheney It's more than borrowed. He's on someone else's time now.  Why and how did he ever get to the top of the list?  (One wonders, of course, if he convinced Haliburton to bribe UNOS.)

@JamesSkidsen"I'm a college graduate who has taken advanced composition, scientific writing, chemistry, physiology, critical thinking , philosophy, neurology, logic, algebra, statistics, gross anatomy and calculus and this is the best you can do?"

To paraphrase an ancestor of mine, "How did you mess up?  Let me count the ways."   If your post is an example of writing from someone who actually studied "advanced composition", then perhaps you need to go back to the third grade when we all studied PARAGRAPHING AND SENTENCE STRUCTURE.

Based on your writing, and giving you the benefit of the doubt that you've taken any of the classes you listed, you learned very little in your college experience.  As for paying you anything at all to write, again, your post clearly indicates a critical lack of competence in that field.

Given the way your post was structured, and the content and presentation, it's pretty obvious why you are out of a job.  It's also painfully apparent why you will struggle to get one.  Until you drop the holier than thou attitude and replace it with something that actually makes use of the critical thinking class you allegedly took to explain WHY you think you're qualified to do anything at all, let alone better than someone who was hired and paid to do it, you will continue to be unemployed pretty much forever.

@PonurGraveCheney @DeweySayenoff Total copout.  If Leftists were as bad, we'd have ALREADY invaded Turkey to punish Syria for chemical weapons, and given the no-bid war contracts to Joe Biden's friends.

No.  No.  Hell no.  Rightists are the gold standard for evil and have no peers. Your childish "I know what you are but what am I" blindness doesn't help.

@komponist53 @voiceman What's so evil?  The idea of equal pay for work of equal value (Lilly Ledbetter Act)?  Choosing to back neither the Syrian Baathists nor the Al Qaeda-filled resistance?  Ensuring that everyone can buy health insurance, the benefits of which, among other things, means that they cannot be refused coverage based on prior illnesses?  Or is it because he doesn't look like you?

@AndyMills @komponist53 @voiceman

Approximately 53% of the U.S. population that works and pays taxes will be paying higher insurance premiums to pay for those not working, not paying taxes, but eating. If a much smaller segment of the population was working, the ACA could actually live up to its name. Under the present circumstances with high unemployment, the new tax places a huge burden on the working middle class, creating a new level of inequality between the haves and have nots. The ACA will eventually fail and will have to be scrapped or rewritten. And if the ACA is so great, why is the president and members of senate exempt from having to participate in it?

komponist53
komponist53

@AndyMills @komponist53 @voiceman

Think beyond the mere concept. Look at the economics of it. About 53% of the working population that pays into taxes will be supporting the health care of the rest who don't work or pay taxes. That 53% is the middle class (not the wealthy) who are already challenged with a bad economy.  This is an example of wishful thinking by idealists who refuse to look at simple math.

@rpearlston @komponist53 @voiceman

Well actually, now that you brought up skin color, mine is closer to Obama's than yours probably is. On the ACA, it's a nice idea in theory, but it's inherently flawed because the insured healthy people will see dramatic increases in their premiums so they can pay for others' insurance. It sets up a very unequal situation. You mention equality, but there's none of that with the ACA, and what the hell does that have to do with race? I advise you to listen to Dr. Ben Carson on the subject.
