A Walmart employee in Missouri was fired this week after he intervened in an assault in the store’s parking lot.

Kristopher Oswald, 30, was working the night shift at a Walmart in Hartland, Mo., when he heard a woman screaming outside during his break at about 2:30 am on Sunday. He saw a man hanging on the hood of her car and when he approached the man turned to attack him, WXYZ reported Thursday. Two more assailants reportedly attacked Oswald before the police arrived.

According to his termination papers, Walmart then fired Oswald for “a violation of company policy on his lunch break.” Oswald said Walmart has policies about workplace violence that he may have run afoul of.

Now out of a job, Oswald said he wasn’t sure what his next move was but when asked if he’d do it over again he said, “I will always do the right thing.”

Walmart did not respond to a request for comment from WXYZ.
