The 28-year-old baggage handler accused of setting off two dry ice bombs at the Los Angeles Airport intended them as a prank, but his actions could still land him in hot water.
Authorities on Wednesday said that Dicarlo Bennett, a baggage handler for Servisair who fashioned two dry ice bombs that exploded and another that was found before it went off, made the devices as a prank. “Kids have been building dry ice bombs for years,” Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon said, according to Reuters, “but it’s not a prank and it’s going to be dealt with very seriously.”
Meanwhile, Los Angeles airport officials have changed their dry ice policy. Dry ice, which is often used to keep food fresh before loading onto airplanes, will now be returned to the airport’s warehouse, according to the AP, instead of being left on the tarmac.
