Kenya’s Dennis Kimetto won the men’s race at the Chicago Marathon Sunday with a record course time, highlighting the first major U.S. marathon since April’s bombing in Boston.
Kimetto won with an unofficial time of 2:03:45, breaking last year’s record of 2:04:38. Rita Jeptoo, also of Kenya, won the women’s race with an unofficial time of 2:19:59.
Security was high throughout the day, with Chicago police posted at nearly every intersection downtown and Homeland Security bomb-sniffing dogs roaming the area, the Chicago Tribune reports.
