Two New York men have been charged with conspiring to give material aid to terrorists in the form of winter clothing and electronics, New York officials announced Thursday.

Pakistani-native Humayoun Nabi, 27, and Kuwait-born Islmail Alsarabbi, 32, a naturalized U.S. citizen, were arrested after a long-term undercover NYPD investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Nabi told an undercover cop he was collecting winter coats and hiking boots to give to “fighters in Afghanistan who were fighting American soldiers and that he did so because he hates the United States, Jewish people, and U.S. soldiers specifically and that he wanted to give those fighting the Americans equipment that would level the playing field.”

The defendants face seven years in prison and are being held on $500,000 bond in advance of their next court appearance scheduled for October 25, according to ABC News.

Relatives of both men insist they are innocent.
