When Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and other lawmakers took a helicopter ride to survey the state’s massive flood damage, their trip quickly turned into a rescue mission. Passengers noticed individuals waving to them from the ground, descended the aircraft, and rescued seven people and their pets. With many locations currently inaccessible by road, more than 700 people have needed to be airlifted to safety
