Pastor Terry Jones Arrested Before He Can Burn Qurans

The notoriously Islamophobic pastor planned to burn a Quran for every victim of 9/11

A Florida pastor was arrested on Wednesday while driving a pickup truck towing a large grill filled with kerosene-soaked Qurans to a park. The pastor said he planned to burn 2,998 Qurans, the Muslim holy book, one for each victim of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, reports the Associated Press. Wednesday was the 12th anniversary of the attacks.

Pastor Terry Jones, 61, and his associate Pastor, Marvin Sapp, Jr., 44, were both charged with unlawful conveyance of fuel, a felony. Jones was also charged with an unlawful open-carry of a firearm, a misdemeanor.

Jones first gained notoriety in 2010 when he planned to publicly burn a Quran on the anniversary of 9/11, though he eventually called the stunt off. His church did, however, burn a Quran in 2011, and he promoted an anti-Muslim film in 2012. All three incidents sparked violence in the Middle East.

The U.S. military has told Jones that his actions put American and Western troops in Afghanistan and elsewhere in dangers. Jones has repeatedly ignored their pleas to stop.

The criminal/felony police who arrested Jones should be arrested and charged with felonies for taking away Jones's rights of free speech.  This is the United States not a radical Islamic Sharia Law country.  Those radical Muslim police should move to a Sharia Law country when they finish their prison terms.

Pastor Jones is a hero and should be the POTUS period.

Islam and those evil Islamic terrorists must be obliterated and Koran is their poisonous mind food.

Amazing!!!  Even though this A**hole gives GOD-hater/anti-Christian, P'sOS (sorry to insult S*IT) "ammunition" to attack all believers; this is still (for the time being) AMERICA!!! You may not like what this idiot does or says....in this country he has every RIGHT without the government censuring citizens!!!!

they nazi/marxists will probably put him in a cell next to the man who's video "was the reason for the attack on US Sovereign Soil and the murder of US CITIZENS!!!!!!!!!

Well, regardless of whether the Quran's were burned or not. THEY WERE DESTROYED by the kerosene. Which is the big no-no according to Islam. As a Christian, I say we burn equal amount of bibles to make the point that we don't care if you burn a book. Some might take offense but it is NOT a "sin" to burn a bible.

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Jesus died for the worlds sins.We all sin and need to be forgiven.Any sex outside marriage is a sin.Marriage is between one man and one woman. We are made in God's image. We are all separated from God and will live apart from Him for eternity unless we accept Jesus Christ as our savior. He loves all of us and wants us to turn from sin. Some call this a"hatefilled bigoted way!.....................”God, the Creator of everyone and everything loves us enough to let us know when we are headed toward destruction.

Sure he's a jerk, but this is America, and he ought to be free. Too many laws -- they got em all on the books, and then they just use them when they like to arrest you. Police state, sad.

bachcole

They can always find some law that you have broken to use as an excuse to arrest you.  We have so many laws; lawmakers are constantly making laws.  What Jones was proposing to do was perfectly legal.  Yeah, I know that he is a jerk and was deliberately provoking violence.  But what he was trying to do is PERFECTLY legal protected by the 1st Amendment.  Understand, Dear Citizen, that there are so many laws in your city, county, state, and country that they will find a law that you are breaking if they want to, and they will use it to stop you from doing what they don't want you to do, NO MATTER IF IT IS PROTECTED BY EVEN THE 1ST AMENDMENT.

Some people are so asleep. Did you know there are "no go zones" in Dearborn Micigan. Did you know police and fire fighters have responded to 911 calls in Dearborn then have stones thrown at them because they touched a muslim woman while saving her? Did you know non believers and Christians have been stoned in Dearborn? That they block off streets for Friday prayers without permission? That muslim students get special prayer times and special prayer rooms in public schools in Dearborn Micigan!!?? Before you call me a liar google it read for yourself. Lots of news articles about it. Where is the ACLU on this one!!!

That is all well and good but most Christians do not accept such an objective viewpoint of their faith. There is in fact a doctrine (as implausible and immoral as it is) that must be followed and executed to the exact letter or damnation awaits. It is these types of religious demi-gods that must be challenged.

"Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse."

Pretty much says it all doesn't it?

Right now, all over the world there are people just Like Jesus who claim divinity and they have people following their every whim. Doomsday cults and their leaders (like Christianity) have always been around because we are pattern seeking mammals. We are fearful that the pattern will end. We are fearful that our own mortality is at stake.

It's not a big mystery why religion has such a hold on so many people.

@Lebow-Ski Review the Life of Jesus and you will find that all that He did you you and me was out of love and sacrafice.  Nothing He did was "hate filled" or "bigoted."  Open your heart and ask Him to show you his face and He will do it.  You will then have all of the answers to your questiuons and you will feel the only real peace that exists on this Earth.

@Lebow-Ski @BobWills  Yes Jefferson said this. But notice that he cut out some of Jesus"s sermons and carried them with him proclaiming Jesus to be one of the wisest men who ever walked the earth. You might want to study what CS lewis said about Jesus. He doubted him in the begginning also.

@Lebow-Ski @lwwgaw  Re-read what lbjack sent you because you obviously are not getting it.

EVERY Muslim-governed nation today and throughout history is marked by violence, oppression, bigotry, slavery, ignorance and rampant corruption. Judaism is founded on the Ten Commandments. Christianity is founded on Love. As there Jews and Christians who don't live up to their creed? Of course! Are there Muslims who live up to their creed? Sure: the 9/11 bombers are good examples, as are the ordinary, everyday Muslims who routinely murder and persecute Infidels and members of the wrong sects amongst them. Those are GOOD Muslims.

Islam is founded on submission to an Arab god and his mass-murdering, child rapist prophet. If you want to claim the same about Judeo-Christian nations, then go ahead, show off your stupidity and mendacity.

@BobWills @Lebow-Ski If a mother lost her child to a disease, the last thing I would comfort her with was "Well, there's an all-powerful being who COULD have saved your kid, but instead stood idly by while they suffered and died." If there were such a being, it would be exceptionally cruel and evil to do so, as no good being will let another suffer when capable of intervening. But the reality is, there is no such being, and sometimes we suffer. We try to overcome that, and we're doing well, but it's not done yet.

@johnahay07 @Lebow-SkiThat is a load of it. I can cite several examples of atheists and agnostics who are quite generous with their charitable works. Bill Gates would certainly be on that list, and not only has he pledged to give away most of his wealth in charitable work, but has encouraged other fellow atheists and agnostics to follow suit, including Warren Buffet, Richard Branson and Larry Ellison. Angelina Jolie also does a great deal of charitable work and has said she does not personally believe in "God".

johnahay07
johnahay07

@Lebow-Ski Don't know.  All I know is studies show atheists to be extremely stingy and hardly give to charity.

Empathy.

I assume you understand that Empathy is not a monopoly of Christianity right?

Empathy is a part of who we are as human beings. It is part and parcel of the way we evolved to work together for survival.

Why would an Atheist not have empathy?

isochronous
isochronous

@BobWills Because the first rule of evolution is survival.  Species that don't have the will to live in spite of hardship quickly disappear.  We've been programmed to be this way over millions of years of natural selection.

BobWills
BobWills

@Lebow-Ski So you would encourage the "BILLIONS" of suffering people to keep living becuase they only have this life.  Why, they are suffering.  Why not just end it all and stop the suffering?

Lebow-Ski
Lebow-Ski

I like all moral atheists, would encourage that person to live because we only have the one life that we know of. This in and of itself is proof positive that life is very precious indeed. If Jesus has helped you and millions of others I understand your need to believe that. But given all that this Jesus of yours hasn't done for the BILLIONS of people that are Suffering right now, that are dying of starvation RIGHT NOW. Don't you think that your position is somewhat Myopic??

BobWills
BobWills

@Lebow-Ski Well, I might have to agree with you, but I am a living example that Jesus lives and all that He said is true.  See, He changed my life.  he saved me when there was no hope.  He has saved millions throughout history.  Nothing saves accept Jesus.  If you someone told you they were going to kill themselves, as an athiest, what would you tell them?  If a mother loast her child to a disease, how would you comfort her as an athiest?  Jesus has the power to comfort and save.  He is the only way.

No.  You are so very wrong and in so many ways.

First, your reference to passages about killing gays is found in Leviticus.  Leviticus is in the Old Testamant, the part of the "Bible" Jesus actually states is old and not to be followed, so you know nothing about basics in Christianity 101.

Second, your so called theory about Christians changing and reaching enlightenment BS is ridiculous.  It is BS you totally made up.

The fact is Jesus, never killed for physically harmed anyone.  Jesus was like Buddha or Confusious, a peaceful, forgiving and tolerant man.

Mohammad, on the other hand was a man of extreme violence and intolerance.  That is why Islam to its core is violent and intolerant and will always be that way.

The acts of violence that have occured by people claiming to be Christian (and are really not) is in numbers comparable to rain drops compared to the oceans of violence committed by Muslims (actually following the ways of Mohammad).

Hundreds of millions of Muslims fear Islam, not Christianity (even when directly asked if they fear Christianity).  There is nothing to fear from the roots of Chrisitainity, and there is much to fear from the roots of Islam.

seraphimblade
seraphimblade

@lwwgaw @Lebow-Ski Christianity has all kinds of vicious, bloodthirsty passages in its "holy book", from killing people for being gay to its purported god ordering massacres.

The only reason it isn't doing violence any more (yes, any more, see "witch trial" or "Inquisition" or "heretic") is because it was defanged by the Enlightenment. Islam is about 500 years younger than Christianity, and it is no more nasty, bloodthirsty, or power hungry than Christianity was in 1500.

Yes, believing in things that aren't real often causes harm. But Christianity did quite its share of it too. There is no such thing as a god.
