Happy Second Birthday, Battleland!

Today marks Battleland’s second birthday, and the beginning of (as most parents know) “the terrible twos.” We’re hoping Battleland won’t become too irritable. We thank you, our readers, for returning day after day (well, some of you, anyway), and for the strays who sometimes become regulars.

Our goal, as we have made clear from the start, is to “build a better blog to debate the key issues facing the U.S. military, and the national-security issues facing the nation.” We are not writing for the Pentagon’s E-Ring, nor for the anointed princes of the nation’s military-industrial complex. Rather, we write for taxpayers, troops and veterans – the groups who get hurt the most when those in charge fumble the ball. You can always let us know how we’re doing at Battleland.DC@gmail.com

Because Battleland has matured (eye of the beholder, we know), we also think it’s time for a new slogan. “Where military intelligence is not a contradiction in terms” worked fine for baby Battleland. But as we move into toddlerhood, it’s time to come up with a tagline that says what we’re about — without kicking sand in the eyes of some of our most dedicated readers.

We think “Military intelligence for the rest of us” does that. We hope you do, too.
