Max Boot, the hawkish hardliner (is that redundant?) and author of the recently-published Invisible Armies: An Epic History of Guerrilla Warfare from Ancient Times to the Present, says the nation got the short end of the stick with the loss of four of its top generals in recent years.

In a piece in the April issue of Commentary magazine, he autopsies the final days in the careers of Gens. David Petraeus, Stan McChrystal, John Allen and James Mattis.

“A strong case can be made,” Boot asserts, “that all were shabbily treated to one extent or another.”

Read his logic here, and see if you concur.
