It’s among the most exciting moments of a young couple’s life: Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were rushing from their Brooklyn, N.Y. home early Sunday morning to the hospital where they were expected to give birth to their first child. But while driving through an intersection, their cab was struck by another car, killing both husband and wife. The driver of the car fled on foot.

Just hours after the fatal crash Sunday, more than 1,000 people gathered at a Brooklyn synagogue to pay respects to the young couple. Compounding the tragedy on Monday was the death of the newborn baby, who was delivered alive in an emergency C-section after the accident but later succumbed to brain and other internal injuries.
