The first couple dances with members of the military at the Commander-in-Chief's ball Monday night. That's Marine Gunnery Sgt. Timothy D. Easterling dancing with First Lady Michelle Obama, and Air Force Staff Sgt. Bria D. Nelson dancing with the President.

“I want you to know that when I was standing on the steps of the Capitol today, looking out over close to a million people, the single-biggest cheer that I always get -- and today was no different at my Inauguration -- was when I spoke about the extraordinary men and women in uniform that preserve our freedom and keep our country strong.”

Goering, Hitler's propaganda chief, called it dragging the people along. It's also been called "playing the troop card."

"Why, of course the people don't want war . . . But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship . . . Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.."  ---Hermann Goering, 1946
