A briefing for allied military spokesmen in Afghanistan has come up with a list of Don’t’s and Do’s.
First Don’t:
Lie or spin.
First Do:
Stick to the facts.
Having been at the receiving end of lots of briefings on military campaigns, Battleland finds the guidelines pretty good, actually.
Yet there remains a conflict between the progress being claimed in Afghanistan by the public spokespeople, and the less-positive assessments gleaned in private chats with U.S. and allied officials on the ground there.
There’s even a tug-of-war among U.S. military officers over just how optimistic they should be. Tough to draft guidelines about that.
