Two hundred years ago, the U.S. military was fighting the Creek Indians and their allies, who responded by slaughtering some 250 white and mixed-blood Native Americans at Fort Mims, Alabama. Such a heritage may come in handy, now that the U.S. military has awarded the Creeks, doing business as the Muscogee Nation Business Enterprise of Okmulgee, Okla., a $7.4 million one-year contract to defend Pentagon outposts in Herat and Helmand, Afghanistan.
“These services will include basic necessities, complex security, and personnel security details for safe travel in the immediate region,” the contract announcement says. The tribe notes that it is “a GE Security Strategic Partner which brings strong customer support to our customers.”
