— Pentagon spokesman George Little on Tuesday, He was explaining why the Pentagon hasn’t begun planning for $600 billion in budget cuts over the coming decade slated to take effect January 2, 2013. That will happen if Congress and the White House fail to come up with a $1.2 trillion deficit-reduction plan by then (or change the law mandating the cuts, which has been known to happen).

Does he mean the 2007 defense budget was absurd? Does he

mean to say the budget has grown soooooo much over the last five years that

there's no way we could have a standing army if we went back to those levels?
