U.S. Army Pfc. Erick Montoya of the 82nd Airborne patrols through an alfalfa field in southern Afghanistan's Ghazni province on June 14. The other Alfalfa Club is an elite Washington, D.C. organization that exists solely to throw an annual private dinner on the last Saturday of each January. The approximately 200 members include top U.S. politicians and business leaders, and presidents routinely attend. Its name comes from the plant’s supposed willingness to do anything for a drink.
