$55 Million

…that’s how much the Pentagon’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Research and Development Enterprise Chemical and Biological Technologies Directorate wants to pay a company over the next five years on a sole-source, no-bid contract for “strategic communications and event support.” The money will pay for “symposiums, conferences, training sessions, senior leadership forums, seminars and technical exchange meetings.”

Just what does that mean?

Bottom line: this looks like a contract to perpetuate this office by scaring people about the threats of biochem weapons. Too bad you can’t find the office on DTRA’s website, which may be part of the problem. The office began looking for a company to get this contract from among a group of 1,800 firms. DTRA narrowed it down to…one, that it decided warranted the deal under “other than full and open competition.” No surprise the agency’s so-called “competition advocate” had his or her name blacked out.
