About 10,000 people have signed a petition on the White House website urging the Pentagon to remove radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh from the military’s radio network. The petitioners acted after Limbaugh called a college student a “slut” for advocating insurance-provided contraception. He has lost several advertisers following his diatribe. Limbaugh’s comments “were well beyond the pale of what should be broadcast to our military and their families, supported with our tax dollars,” their statement says. “There is no excuse for the U.S. government, in any capacity, giving this man an audience.”
Defense Department spokesman George Little tells the AP there are no plans to yank Limbaugh, who airs five mornings a week via Pentagon programming, from the schedule.
