…that’s the percentage increase in China’s defense budget this year over 2011, Beijing announced Sunday. In comparison, Pentagon spending is expected to drop by 1% next year. But numbers are slippery things: China says it is pumping $110 billion into its military this year, which most analysts say is well below what it is actually spending. The Pentagon, in contrast, is spending $530 billion this year (not counting war spending), or about five times as much.
