Private Danny Chen

We’ve reported on a couple of disturbing cases recently where U.S. troops of Asian heritage supposedly killed themselves after being hazed by their so-called comrades in war zones. When we reported that the Army believed that Private Danny Chen, from New York’s Chinatown, apparently killed himself in Afghanistan on Oct. 3, some readers objected.

“There is no way he committed suicide,” one posted. “Danny was murdered and the Army must do an investigation on the cause of Danny’s death. It is disgrace to the U.S. Army that fellow soldier is killed by their comrades.” The Army did do an investigation. On Wednesday, it announced eight soldiers had been charged with manslaughter and other crimes in connection with the 19-year old soldier’s death.
