Ron Capps

Battleland’s own Ron Capps has just been tapped to create a writing program to help troops wrestling with post-traumatic stress. The program will be part of the research and therapy at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, the military’s premier clinic for PTSD and traumatic brain injury, on the campus of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

“Writing gives you the chance to take a memory that might be stuck in the back of the mind, make it physical and shape it so that eventually you understand that it’s a memory and it can’t hurt you anymore,” Capps tells Military Times. One thing I’ve learned in years of covering this scourge: it’s really a variety of ailments that requires a variety of treatments. Write on, Ron!
