That’s how much the Marine Corps is paying for one person to spend 2012 in Afghanistan tending to the care and feeding of the corps’ Cougar Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle fleet, according to a contract announced Monday. The $88.9 million contract awarded to to Force Protection Industries, Inc., of Ladson, S.C., will pay for 240 such technicians “to install liner blanket kits, install modernization safety kits and conduct general maintenance work” on the vehicles. “Liner blanket kits” are basically “inside armor” for these MRAPs, blocking blast fragments that might get past the vehicle’s external shell.
