That’s the price per F-35 awarded by the Pentagon to Lockheed Martin on Friday: $4,011,919,310 for 30 planes: 21 for the Air Force, six for the Navy, and three for the Marines. Unfortunately, the Defense Department lumps all the planes together in a single contract, which makes it tough to tell how much extra the beefed-up Navy version costs for its carrier-landing ability, or the premium paid by the Marines for its “short take off and vertical landing” requirement.
