Limboland: VA Backlog Shrinking?

Rick Maze over at Military Times has a piece this morning about Senator Patty Murray’s ongoing discussion with the VA over benefits. The entire article is worth a read, but one detail is worth pulling out: according to Maze, the VA now has “868,000 pending claims, 61% of which are more than 125 days old.”

These numbers are huge, but it’s worth asking, is this getting better or worse? Last summer the number of claims over 125 days old was over 750,000. If the 61% figure is accurate—and I have to think Mr. Maze has done his homework, so let’s assume it is—then the number of claims in Limboland beyond 125 days has dropped to under 530,000.

I hope this is true.  More to do, obviously, but that drop would be an enormous step in the right direction.
