On Monday, about 500 prisoners, including more than 100 Taliban commanders, escaped from an Afghan-run jail in Kandahar. On Wednesday, a ticked-off Afghan pilot pulled a gun at Kabul airport, killing eight U.S. troops and a contractor before he was killed, news sources report from Afghanistan. The officer “opened fire on foreign coalition personnel after an argument among them,” the Afghan defense ministry said in a statement. This keeps on happening, and it’s going to be tough to explain to the parents of those killed why things like this continue. The Guardian helpfully provides a list citing recent cases where Afghans have turned on their supposed liberators.
